The Phoenix Marathon
In 2012, Phoenix announced a new Marathon, The Phoenix Marathon, an annual event with the first race being held on March 2, 2013. I decided to run this event because March is National Kidney Cancer Awareness Month, and it was my way of raising awareness. Here's a look at how year two went:
2014 Marathon:
Learning from my experience in 2013, I adjusted my training schedule, "slightly", figuring I had over trained the year before. I wasn't making the same mistake twice! So, I ran 7 miles in December, and 3 miles in January, and 7 miles in February, a total of 17 training miles. I completed the run in 5 hours 46 minutes and 55 seconds and had an absolute blast. No nagging injuries, no wall, just a complete blast! I enjoyed beverages and cigars 2 weeks up until the race. I was happy! During the run I stopped along the route and thanked the volunteers and even ran alongside first time marathoners that were struggling, giving them encouragement and letting them know their mind is strong and they could do this! Why? Because I knew I could do it. I knew I could make it 26.2 miles, because I already had last year.
I created the hashtag #bks262 so supporters could follow me on social media. They showed their spirit by wearing orange and posting to that hashtag via FaceBook or Twitter! Why orange? Orange is the official color for Kidney Cancer Support. Check out the hashtag #bks262 on FaceBook and Twitter !!
