The Phoenix Marathon
In 2012, Phoenix announced a new Marathon, The Phoenix Marathon, an annual event with the first race being held on March 2, 2013, would become my first of three very different marathon experiences. I decided to run this event because March is National Kidney Cancer Awareness Month, and it was my way of raising awareness. Here's the background.
2015 Marathon:
If you saw the video on the home page, then you already know most everything about this run. In short, I woke up the morning of February 28, 2015 and ran 26.2 miles without having trained a single step since the 2014 run. That's right, zero miles of training. See, I was too busy enjoying life. Golf, family, friends, the important things in life. Training became secondary because it would have taken away from time with everyone else. I have even put on 18.4 pounds since the 2014 run. My body was happy and my mind was fit!
I finished the run in 6 hours 10 minutes and 08 seconds. I was dead tired, but it was very rewarding and self-fulfilling as you will see in the final couple hundred yards to the finish line. I pulled out my phone to record the last of the run. What happened next was unexpected and pretty darn cool.
